NOTE: You MAY be exempt from this requirement if you were unable to meet the income threshold for any given period because you were on parental/carer’s leave; or you were receiving compensation for an injury; or you were unable to return to New Zealand due to a Family Court primary care order; or the COVID-19 pandemic affected your income in either 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 (Note: You may only claim a COVID-19 pandemic income exemption for one of the financial years, 2019-2020 or 2020-2021; you cannot claim an exemption for both financial years).
